This piece depicts the reality of young girls in India being forced into a life of servitude as devadasis. In the drawing, the girl is shown being married off to a deity despite still being a child, while the thorns on the other womens' hands are a symbol of the pain and suffering she is forced to endure. It is a depiction of the exploitation of young girls dedicated to serving god and the priests for the rest of their lives. The drawing represents the injustices that occur when people are not treated with civility and respect, and the urgent need to recognize the inherent value of all individuals, regardless of their circumstances.
